CREECH ELEMENTARY'S LIBRARIAN PUBLISHES HER FIRST CHILDREN'S BOOK!

(October 30, 2006) – Creech's very own Librarian, Pat Miller, publishes her first book!

Pat Miller, Creech’s very own Librarian, gets her first book published.  The book is titled Substitute Groundhog.

She wrote the first draft of the book in summer of 2002. After 29 rejections, an editor at Albert Whitman called Mrs. Miller on July 28, 2005 to accept the manuscript. It will come out in November (Creech got advance copies). It has been named a Junior Library Guild Book of the Month for January.

Substitute Groundhog can be ordered at most bookstores, and should actually be in the bookstores in January. The book is a funny one about Groundhog having try-outs for Groundhog Day because he is sick and needs to hire a substitute. Each animal has some problem during its try-out until a visiting armadillo steps up. The pictures are great—two of them are being reproduced on a wall of the Creech library by Trace of Art with funding provided by Mrs.Miller and a grant from Fund for Teachers.

Mrs. Miller had the warm pleasure of autographing 161 copies that were purchased at the book fair. She says this is definitely the fun part of the process!

Mrs. Miller teaches the students the process of writing, editing, illustrating and finally getting the book published.
